Soo. That blackout. That was rough. Right? Right? . . . Right.

Anyway, uh! Stuff happened and — stuff got lost. Or stolen. Stuff and stuff. Oh my god, what am I doing.

[ he clears his throat. ]

My point is. I'm sort of freelancing my . . . powers? They work in teleportation. So I can teleport objects to anywhere in the world, but also if you lost something, I can locate it for you. Anywhere. And that applies to people too.

And, uh, I can also check where to find the best food. Like Yelp, but in my head. Don't ask.

Soo. Anyone . . . interested? Probably?

That's . . . a pretty cool idea.

But I don't know anything about business running. Ulari was supposed to help me but . . . he kind of. Left.

Ulari? Is that your... partner?

[exasperation]

Oh! No. No. No.

He was just someone I met. He was nice? And he said my power was useful. That's kind of where the freelance idea came from.

Yeah, it's a good idea. He's onto something.

But what do you mean he left? Like, he disappeared?

[exasperation]

Yeah, I couldn't find him. He vanished in one of the Confluences.

[frenchkissed]

Which one? How long ago did you see him?

Is it common for people to come and go like that? ...Like, you've seen it?

[exasperation]

I think it was a month after I arrived.

And . . . sort of? I haven't seen it, but I'm like Google maps right? I get a sense of how many people are here. Whenever a Confluence hits, some people go, some people come in.

You have a walking catalogue of how many people exist in this place at any given moment?

[exasperation]

[ ripley sort of flaps his hand. ]

...If I ask about about a person, could you tell me if they aren't here? Does it work both ways?

And, completely unrelated, but if Ulari isn't your partner, then who is?

Oh, yeah. If they're not here, I'd know.

And I don't have one? I don't think I ever had. No wait. There's no thinking involved. I definitely never had one.

Okay, yeah, actually, a lot of further questions... like, so many questions, about so many things, but that sounds sort of overwhelming, and I know you're trying to do your freelance thing.

So I'll just... put them in a drawer.

[exasperation]

Oh. I mean, if you really want to, I'm fine with you. Totally.

Fine with me labeling a drawer 'Things To Ask Ripley Later' and filling it full of questions that come to me at odd hours... or fine with me just, like, asking you things?

All of it? Maybe not the odd hours, I sleep really hard but I mean you can try your luck, so really, all of it?

No, that's good. Sleep is good. I've been trying to get back on track with that.

Are you a nap kinda guy?

[exasperation]

I do like naps! But I sleep pretty lightly during them.

I want to like naps, but naps turn into a whole-day event, and then after like the three hour mark, I think it stops being a long nap and officially counts as a short sleep, so...

And cool. That's one question off the list.

Yeah, it's tricky sometimes.

So you really have a bunch of Ripley questions? I'm not that interesting. I barely have hobbies.

Some of them are Ripley-specific. Some of them are about missing persons and the nature of Confluence losses… Some are just about your favorite flavor of ice cream.

Pretty sure we know your hobbies, though. You’re on our Big Brother Night list, remember?

[exasperation]

Definitely! I can't wait. It's going to be great.

But yeah, any time you just wanna know stuff, just ask. I'm cool with it. Kinda weird because it feels like a smart thing and it's really just a powers thing, but still.

Yeah? You can ask us stuff, too. It doesn’t always have to feel like I’m trying to interview you… Even though, like, I could. And I probably should. It’d be make for a good story, learning about this place from someone who’s from here…

Besides the point. Point being that I also want to get to know you for reasons that are entirely unrelated to work.
