What's an angel?

I mean, I looked it up, and it looks like it's some kind of religious thing? But the information doesn't always match, and people keep asking me if I am one, so...I don't know.

I believe it has its origins in religion, with depictions mostly being unearthly beautiful winged people. But it also has the more common usage of meaning 'someone who is too perfect or too nice or too generous to be real', it also can mean 'beautiful' or simply 'very kind'. It's sometimes used as a pet name, both literally and figuratively.

Yeah, it's a religious thing.

They're supposed to be messengers of God, associated with Light and Grace and all that. A lot of art depicts them as humans with large feather wings. So... I can see how people might come to that conclusion.

Winged beings associated with Christianity now, and Zoroastrianism in the past. They are the servants, messengers, and warriors of a divine being.

Of course, in my world there are people the term is applied to who are just winged mutants.

It's part of the stories behind them, especially when one considers the war between the angels and those who rebelled with Lucifer. But it's not as commonly held to these days.

There are, in my world. One of them actually goes by Angel actually.

Back home, an angel is an old spacer's tale. Unnaturally beautiful beings with several wings and shimmering skin like diamonds.

It's a big galaxy, and my time is limited, but the angels aren't part of any specific religion that comes to mind.

[Fascination alone wasn't enough to make a religion, but even he had to admit it would at least make for a good starting point.]

Angels are the winged denizens of the Tenth Realm, Heven, severed from the World Tree Yggdrasil millennia ago. They are a matriarchal race who live by a strict code of reciprocity.

Humanity has worshipped Angels as divine beings, as they have worshipped many races of the other realms. That alone does not grant divinity.

[ Simply being Angel— or Asgardian— does not make one a god. Though her brothers perhaps would have something to say about that. ]

But yes, they have wings.
