Greetings, residents of Sunset Falls. You may know me, Loki. Odinson. Proprietor of the Opherium, spreader of culture and the arts. Throws the best parties. Bringer of a good time. But I'm here now, as a candidate as a mayor for Sunset Falls.

Tired of the same old? Looking for a little chaos that is fun and not strange people turning up and curses running amok? Tired of the same old heroes running around like the own the place and never being accountable?

Vote for me as mayor and I'll be sure to focus on your needs. Needs for magical education, giving our artists and creative youths a voice in these times and making Sunset Falls the memorable place on the planet.

[ he gives a bow, before the video closes. ]

[He takes a moment, trying to find the right words, but he isn't sure what they are. Loki is better at this than he is.]

I think it would be strange, if you felt no envy.

[ quietly. ]

[Even if he is not as much as Loki would want.]

[ something like hope stutters in his chest and loki lets out a shaky breath. he wants to bridge the gap, he's desperate for it, especially now when he feels he's coming up short more than ever. but he can't. sephiroth is still discovering himself and isn't sure of such feats of emotion and — love and he can't afford to put what they have on shakier ground.

so loki lets it die, quietly, as he leans against sephiroth. this is enough. he loves sephiroth, but sephiroth doesn't need to know. they'll go out into the universe someday and he'll be satisfied. it's enough. ]

[Sephiroth doesn't know what this means exactly, but he puts his arm around Loki, because it's something. He is something, and he can offer something, and they can find Loki more once he admits to wanting it, because Sephiroth alone can't measure up to everything that he lost and everything he's wanted but never had.

He might be chosen over some things, but he isn't everything. And that's probably normal. Sephiroth has just never had much of anything, himself. So he has to hold onto this.]

[ his voice is muffled as his hands grip sephiroth's clothes so tightly, his knuckles turn white. ]

I just need to let it go. I just want to be here with you.

[ to be with the one person who wants him. ]

[Oh. Sephiroth holds him closer.]

And I want you here. You can... hold onto me, when you need it.

[Literally, figuratively. Sephiroth didn't have so much to let go of, but it was easier with Loki there to hold onto instead.]

[ loki does not cry. he feels he's past that, just wrung out by the new revelations jane had brought with her and the slow trickle of envy and self-loathing that had descended. maybe he can't say it yet. he still feels he's on uncertain ground, too pushy, too needy.

but he owes sephiroth enough that he does speak up a little, hoarse but brave. ]

I need you. You're — You're my anchor.

[Oh. That is significant. Sephiroth keeps his grip firm, steady.]

...you've been mine, for some time now.

[Since the station. He knows exactly when. The moment Loki chose to stay, even though he was angry, even though Sephiroth was demanding and unreasonable. Sephiroth needed him and he stayed. He keeps staying.]

[ loki looks up at him, wide-eyed. ]

I am?

Yes. I... depend on you.

[Which was something he always saw as weakness, and yet...]

[ his breath catches. he's someone's anchor. he's someone. loki blinks tears from his eyes as he cradles sephiroth's face and leans in for a kiss. ]

[Sephiroth wasn't expecting that reaction--the teary eyes, the kiss--but after a fraction of a second he leans into it. Loki wants to be important to him. He's important.]

[ unlike the first few times, loki kisses like he's coming up for air. he needs this, he needs sephiroth and it burns through him like fire. he wants to sink his claws into it, hold it so tight that it can never escape him. loki knows it's ugly, to be possessive, to be like this but he can't help it right now. all the growth he made going back to new asgard and facing the future seems to be slipping through when the world constantly comes to say, it's not them, it's just you. you, who could never make it. ]

[It's different, but Sephiroth embraces it. Loki is always holding himself back from what he wants, like he doesn't deserve even to ask for it, but this doesn't feel like holding back. The passion tells him he's wanted, even if he isn't everything.

And the fact that he doesn't mind it, that no part of him minds it-- He rejected Loki's touch during that forced transformation, even though it was offered without hesitation. He wasn't there yet, but he is here. He can return this in kind.]

[ eventually, it seems to settle. the salt on his kiss-stung lips seems to melt away as loki too melts into the kiss, soft and pliant, his arms circling sephiroth's neck to hold him close, to keep him close, to erase any space between. ]

[Sephiroth adjusts his grip on Loki's back in an effort to tug him even closer, eager for the pressure of Loki's body against his. The closeness between them feels good, and as long as Loki wants it, he doesn't care to pull away.]

[ oh. maybe he was caught up in his own head. maybe it isn't so hopeless to think that . . .

loki pulls away slowly, though he remains close, pressing their foreheads together. something seems to settle him. immutable. maybe they are immutable. they promised it and loki had believed it. but the world has always proven him wrong.

maybe not this one. his grip is still tight. ]

[Loki does seem more settled, now.]

Are you... anchored?

Yes.

Thank you for . . . holding onto me.

Of course.

[ loki huffs, but he's smiling. ]

It is. And I knew you would. I knew you wouldn't let go.

[ which is why, despite his misgivings and doubts, he still made it here. he still came. ]

No. Because I know your worth.

[ oh. his eyes go wet once more, but he smiles. ]
