So... A few things I've been sitting on.

First up, Who here comes from a world where superpowers are a totally normal thing, and who here knows the hero team, uh... [ a pause as he realizes that he should've probably decided on a team before opening up this post. ] "Avengers" and the term "Mutants"?

Secondly, "I was a Former Teen Hero slash child soldier slash wartime medic" and to everybody just now getting powers and thinking that its your duty to use them for other people - it's not. You didn't ask for these. Don't get yourselves killed trying to be a big shot, I've seen it way... way too many times.

[ a pause. josh runs his fingers through his hair and tips his head back, sighing. ]

Oh my god, I sound so old. Anyway, on that note... my name's Elixir. I have healing powers and I'm offering them to other metas. If you have any need of any medical care, especially like... specialized care due to meta physiology, hit me up.

Hmm... I guess? [ she taps her chin, thinking ] I think music is by how much it sold. Hero ranks are a bit more complex than that.

Well, if we ever get back home and you manage to run into the Professor — or hey, even Wolverine, if he can put in a good word for me — let them know they’ve got a Spider-sub happy to take over a couple of classes.

[ Yes, it was chaotic. Yes, he might have unintentionally provided a few lessons outside of the curriculum, but all in all, he thinks he did a pretty fine job of it.

Teaching is … kind of his thing, weirdly enough. ]

So: any particular reason for the check-in? Looking for someone?

[ it takes a tiny bit of wrangling, but eventually josh secures himself a temporary workspace in one of the meeting rooms. once he's set up, he fires a text message to his patient to be and deactivates his holowatch ]

Meeting Room 1A.

[ ah. ]

... I know a thing or two about the first one. Not so much the second. Were your powers like, genetic, or like, science-y given?

[resurrxion]

Y'know there's a middleground, right? Like you call me and ask if I've got time, like, y'know - an equal? And then we talk.

[ there's a little bit of a tone edging into his voice, souring the attempt at being flippant and spinning this into a joke. ]

[resurrxion]

[ there's a little laugh. ]

Nah, sorry, I'm the wrong guy to be askin' about that. Plus, the school kinda sucks? You'd be way better off opening your own.

[ he fiddles a little with a pen on the desk beside him, wobblying it for something to do with his hands. ]

And nah. I just figure it's a good idea to get a read on who knows who around here, and whether or not we're gonna be trying to kill each other or whatever.

Cool. Let me see what I can do.

[ and from there he head son out.

an hour or so later there's a reply. ]

Hey. I'm in meeting Room 1A. It's the one without the glass.

Totally. Ask a room fulla super people if a black ops team has ever been sent after them 'cause the government thought they were a threat, nobody'd lift a finger. Because the government is totally legit and has our back always.

[ you could drown in the sarcasm. ]

Huh.

[ honestly he's trying to figure out how you'd rank that. who'd be number one back home? captain america? maybe? ]

Wait, hold up, agencies?

[resurrxion]

[ he shrugs. ]

People can do good and bad things. What seems good to someone might be an evil act to someone else.

[resurrxion]

Cool people don't say they're cool, though.

[resurrxion]

Good idea. Which one they got you in?

And I definitely don't have personal experience with government thugs gunning down starving people for the crime of wanting food.

Never saw the suppression of political dissidents either.

[ Swim in it, even. ]

[ ugh. ]

I'd kill for a world where the people in power give a damn about everybody under them.

I tried to make that world a reality, once.

I still believe it could be done, but the war wasn't worth it.

[resurrxion]

[ oh. yikes. ]

... Yeah. Can't say I've seen anyone succeed at making that a reality. Greed's more powerful than hope.

I signed up for the cause. I'm just sorry it didn't work out.

Greed. Hatred. All of those things are powerful but I have to believe they can be overcome eventually.

Not really sure. I'd assume genetic, but I also don't know anything about my birth mother, as it were. We weren't born in a lab or dumped in any weird vats, though.

[And so he is! Otto enters the room with his extra limbs held as close to his back as he can manage. It looks bad for his posture, honestly; he certainly moves like a guy who has a lot of exciting spinal issues! Nonetheless, he flashes Josh a tired smile and offers him a hand.]

Hi - thanks for seeing me.

No prob [ a beat ] lem.

[ he should at least try to sound slightly more professional. Over the years, he's come under fire a few times for all this knowledge he has and he didn't earn. One part of it stolen like a thief in the night, the other pure instinct. It always makes him feel somewhat insecure to be in the face of real genius.

But really that's not the point. He offers his hand, gloved, and gives a casual shake. His powers are already reaching out to see what he's working with, wincing in sympathy. ]

So I'm gonna warn you right off the bat, physical contact with me is pretty intense.

[resurrxion]

Huh.

[ and only a handful of them? something half-tingles at josh's mind, a note of familiarity in this story. ]

Sorry you like immediately had to deal with the bad side of superpowers.

[Otto is also wearing gloves himself - at the comment, he glances down at them. Most of his skin's covered, in fact, down to long sleeves and a rather high-collared shirt. You can't see any of the scarring that way. He gets enough looks without also having a lot of horrific scarring.]

...alright. [It can't be that much worse than all of the times he's been electrocuted, right? I'm pretty sure the first time was technically plasma, rip] Is that all you need to do it? Just a touch?

It is what it is. I don't know that there's a good way for superpowers to exist, really.

Allegedly, it's on an island with no contact with humans.
