Any chance there is anyone among the guilds and unaligned who is particularly good at florakinesis, and possibly genetic manipulation of plant to create new cultivar species?

Trying to recreate something from home, and there's no way I have the abilities or time to do it in this world's technology infrastructure on my own.

The times that I find myself missing the green-tech native to my natin back home are rather intense these days it seems, and there are a few things I wish I could have in my personal space that would make me less homesick. Things I doubt any amount of guild work at interdimensional transit would necessarily allow to travel here.

Pretty sure the FDA and Department of Ag would get upset about interdimensional plant imports.

And before the chuckles, yes, technopath asking for plants. Ha ha ha.

Yes, it can. Except I know the means to get it done. I just don't have the skill to create the thing.

I’m going to hope that our definitions of awry align. If I see any unexpectedly carnivorous plants encroaching on the downtown core…

I think they align very well.

I am anti-carnivorous plants. It's not how they work back home.

Aside from a few natural options, like flytraps, they’re not how they work where I’m from either.

What kind of plants are you after? I can’t help, but I’m curious.

Well, one is going to sound positively impossible. The others are entirely decorative and characteristic to my island home.

Bagel plant.

It's a vine that grows Bagels. Yes.

But bagels are yeasted and cooked. That doesn’t even begin to make sense.

It has to be growing something that’s merely bagelesque. Have you done a full chemical analysis of the fruit?

And yet I had more than a few breakfasts from the vine. I assure you, it's a full on bagel.

Alas, I don't think they figured that part out. And they weren't even everything bagels.

In my home a lot of our tech was grown. Specialized plants for different tasks. Grown mainframes and data processing. Plants that create holographic projections. Fleet seeds to send messages.

And bagel vines. Though there was only one, and it was a housewarming present, and I miss home a bit.

Sounds elegant. How would you code for a bio organic mainframe? For that matter, has anyone looked into what could be done with targeted bio nanites?

I guess it doesn’t matter from here. I don’t want to compound the homesickness, but you’re not alone in that.

Coding actually isn't all that hard. You still function on binary more or less, but instead of ones and zeroes, you're working with amino acid chains. But I wasn't a specialist on the tech. I was better at use of it and interpretation of results. And sadly Forge isn't here to give crash courses.

And we're sorta not fond of anything that resembles nanites, even ones made from our green tech. There's definitely some bad history back there on stuff like this. Most of what we did, though, isn't even remotely possible here as we're lacking a serious catalyst for the technology that I am not allowed to discuss.

Some people seem to adjust to this place better, because it's so very much like their world, or so very different. This place is somewhere in between for me, and so I grow to miss the things that scream of home. Certain kinds of plants is very high up there.

Oh, is that all? Everyone replaces ones and zeroes with amino acid chains. That's obviously not a huge step up in difficulty.

Technology is only as good as the people using it. Let's leave the discussion of tech for another day.

I think I'm one of the lucky ones, and this world isn't that far off for me. Everyone deserves a piece of home.

It's actually a LOT more complicated than that. And unfortunately due to proprietary tech and state secrets, I can't give more than that part. There are actually countries trying to overtake the tech, which is a problem because some of it is how we run national defense, which, well matters.

A lot.

Happy to let the discussion lapse though. Not like that stuff matters here. Though I'll note my Earth isn't so different from this one either.
