[The video opens with a shot of an outdoor canopy as Mayuko speaks to… someone. “Right, so when I go back, I won’t end up on a roof somewhere? … In front of the hotel. All right, thank you-- no, it’s been fine so far, just… that issue. Mmm-hmm…okay, I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks again.”]

[The view changes as she picks up the phone. She’s sitting outside of a café, although once she sees the phone still active, she adjusts her seat and the shot’s angle away from a view of the interior. She looks a far cry from the salt-soaked mess hauled up from the seafloor upon arrival: tidy outfit, hair pulled back with a thin ribbon, light amount of makeup.]

Sorry about that-- seems that when, mmm, taking a trip out to Sunset Falls, you could arrive at the top of a building? Would have been good to know that ahead of time. Ah well, at least there was a ladder down….

[Mayuko is not sure how widespread the teleportation technology is, but she can be circumspect when needed. She flicks her ponytail over her shoulder; while she had not intended to send a message out, she might as well introduce herself.]

In any case! My name is Mayuko. Another new arrival-- that’s a monthly refrain, right? Every month, some more people drift in. I wish I could say that’s a new concept for me, but… let’s just say this isn’t my first time away from home.

Today, Jun and I… [Mayuko takes a moment to flip the view to a puppy, front paws planted on the table, snout first in a pup-cup stabilized by Mayuko’s free hand] are out here in Sunset Falls. After stepping outside this morning and seeing some of the Central buildings starting to look like wax candles, I thought it would be a good day to visit another of the cities the representatives mentioned.

[That, and the vague feeling of something being wrong in Central. An itch between the shoulder-blades she couldn’t scratch. She hoped it was just a case of nerves, after being deposited in another world, and that a change of scenery would help ease her mind.

She shakes her head, and offers a smile.]

And a free round-trip is a free round-trip! So long as you’re inside before sundown, you’ll be fine, they said.

[Mayuko looks up and flips the camera to catch a shot of a cloud of nearly transparent butterflies and flower petals floating along the street. In a tone equal parts calm and amused, she notes:]

There’s still plenty of daylight left. While I see what there is to see out here, what have you all found in this world so far? Each city has its quirks, I hear. Or maybe you’ve been somewhere strange yourself. I’d love to hear about it.

A trip by way of teleportation. The generic drop off point in SF is on top of the high school gym, of all places!

The tech said that members can set arrival points on their own devices. These one-day loaner trinkets are set to the same one. So as least for SF, feature??

I'll admit, it's a good central location within the city. Lots of landmarks to orient around.

But. Yeah. Not the most subtle when you have to scramble down the ladder to get anywhere. :\

Have you visited any of the other cities?

Just Central City and Little Love. They're kinda polar opposites to each other. One's a big crowded city and the other's basically a small farming community

[Mayuko's end of the line has the dotdotdots going for a bit. Then stops.

The next message has a link(?) to a Tiktok where Jun (still standing on the seat of the chair) is barking at a planter. Seems normal... until a trio of palm-sized rocks roll out, sprout legs and go on their merry way. Mayuko's added the Meta Gear Solid "!" sound effect and some kids can be heard laughing nearby near the end of the clip.]

Not shy about magic use here, I guess?

ANYWAY. I thought that might be the case for LL, when I had the tech point out where it is. Does it have, idk, big weird cornfields?

Well, a few months ago the potatoes there got feisty and some people were literally six feet under. Luckily that's all been taken care of now

You didn't mention Attack of the not-so-only-maybe-killer potatoes. Glad to hear it got cleared up

Yeah, they were more annoying than anything else. A pity there weren't any potato guns around

So there's the big city, little farm town. Suburbia out here with weird magic stuff going on, sounds like all the time. And the other one. That sound right?

Rooftop surprise aside, how're you liking it so far?

It seems a weird little place, but I like it fine? Less crowded than Central but not way out in the country, that's a plus. It can stay on the list for now.

[Just being able to travel is nice. After being stuck for five years in one place.]

what made you stick with Central?

I've always been more of a city person and Central reminds me of home. It's got that grittiness the others don't have

Most every place has its dark side. With all the things going on rn in

Excelsior, that's the name of it

it's still got that bright and shiny veneer on top. But yeah, Central... it doesn't hide the same way

In a way, you can appreciate the honesty of it

That or it's just tiring trying to cover up that much. It's a lot for one city to bear, even with all the newcomers cutting their teeth there.

Like making sure to place the missing person posters out of the central downtown. I'm starting to see a lot, and most of them are from this year.

[Truthfully, Jason's fairly aware of that but hasn't been able to investigate further]

You'd think with all the superheroes around, there would be a stop to that by now

I don't know how many are out here, to be able to commit to it. and given the vibes, likely got something weird attached.

[Mayuko is still getting a handle on this whole superhero situation. But she knows weird places, and can imagine some terrible prospects. Something to mull over later, once she's back in Central.]

When there isn't a monster of the week wrecking things, no doubt. Ppl don't seem concerned in any case. You can get used to even things like this.

Starting out's seldom glamourous, not gonna lie. you just keep your wits about you and you'll be okay.
