Hello, my name is Ken Kaneki, and I'm one of the new arrivals from Little Love at the beginning of the month.

We were being told to join a Guild, and I've been wondering how did you chose yours and why. or if any? Can we chose not to be with a guild?

I joined The Guardian Alliance, though I didn't have a particular reason. [ except he did but. He can't tell, so he won't. If pressed about it, kaneki will just say "because it sounded easier". In any case: ] I wonder if I should have given it a bit more thought.

I'm also wondering if everyone came from their worlds. I have been told I was in a different world before, although I don't remember. It's a bit strange that some people know my name, but if you do, I apologize if I don't remember you.

I get why you joined. They've helped us a lot.
But what happens when "selfless use of powers" starts meaning "self-sacrificing"?

Something like that. They have been nice and helpful, so I thought I could repay them somehow.

Although, I don't know if they will demand that. I mean, can they even force you to do that?

[ alina comes from tsarist russia where everything is Terrible, so she's invented all the fun ways this could be Actually Bad. ]

If they offer you resources and you wind up needing them, then when they ask you for something, are they really asking?

I can refuse if it's something I'm against. I would at least. [ even if they threaten him. But then again... ]

Plus, if they upset us, can't we just move to a different guild?

Assuming the Society doesn't look at you as an enemy after you've joined the Alliance.

[ alina knows that in theory they're cooperating, collaborating. but how can that REALLY be true when their ideologies are completely opposite? in her mind, it'd be like ravka trying to make an alliance with fjerda. ]

But truth to be told, I don't think I would be able to live here if I don't join at least one of them. Everything is so strange.

Plus, I'm not that familiar with USA...

I know how you feel.
I hadn't even heard of the USA before coming here.
But you'd be surprised what you can live through.
Maybe we could all help each other instead. We have more in common with each other than we have with the Alliance or the Society, don't we?

[ except what Kaneki needs isn't something he can just obtain by himself. Not in a legal way, he'd eventually be found and he'd be eventually be arrested. And he is certain the Guilds probably know what he is and that means they'd probably wait for him to do something illegal.

basically, he feels like he has no choice. At least The Alliance doesn't have "villainous" in their name. ]

I'd like that. I'm not sure what would happen if we don't join a guild. I wonder if we could make our own Guild, legally?

There must be some way.
If the Alliance were really interested in selflessly using their powers, you'd think they'd help us regardless of whether we joined them.
On the other hand, since you already joined ... maybe they have someone you could ask.

[ can he just really go and ask "hey can i make a guild of my own"? No, that sounds risky. Honestly, this whole conversation sounds risky, now that he thinks about it. If they read what he's writing, they might take it in bad faith ]

I can also ask if we are expected to obey blindly, too.regarding the "self-sacrificing" part, I mean.

In my opinion, it's important to see all sides. I did rush to join the Alliance, but I'd like to know more about the [ villain guild ] the other Guild as well. And what other options are, for people who join neither.

You said you never heard of USA before, right? Do you need help to figure things out? I may have never been to USA before, but it existed in my world, so I can try to help.

I have some classmates helping with bits of it.

Emojis. I think they are popular everywhere. In my country we use different types, that use japanese characters. Like this:

As for travelling, there are many options, like taxi, bus and subway, even bike. The first is someone who you pay to drive you around, the second and the third are vehicles that have a specific route across town to specific destinations and you pay the ticket to ride them.

You can change the language on the device they've given you. Normally japanese keyboards have both Japanese and western writing, so I can use both at the same time.

Although, I rarely use kaomojis to be honest

Why is "kao" different than "e"?

[ is something translating weird? this is all new to alina. ]

"Kao" means face and "Moji" means character. So it's a written-face.
"E" means picture, so it makes it more visual.

It's all terms for the same, I guess. We all just like to give everything a lot of names.

I don't think I quite understand the keyboard though. Having to find the letters instead of write them is hard enough. 😰

And the subway has a map with the name of several stops. So it tells you what street it stops on.

The knowledge of the multiverse and parallel versions of yourself and those you know can be a real doozy the first time.

As someone who has experienced more of that than was ever signed up for, both inside and outside of parallel universes, if you need someone to talk to, I'd be glad to give you what help I can, even if it's just an ear to listen.

It can be, and sometimes a number of other things, too.

It's important to remember it's not your fault.
You didn't make any choices that made it like this.

It seems that no one did? So I have to wonder why it did turn out like this.

Hmm. Yes. Sometimes. Depending on the paths it might lead you down, and what choices you decide to take where it comes to those people, both their memories of the other you and this brand new start with you yourself only.


It's a good question. One several of my own people have to ask right now, as we have a few friends from alternate universes, as well. Different, not at fault, and wondering that 'why this and not that' much the same on both sides.

[ he doesn't know about that. Kaneki's life has not been kind and all happens a lot. There are far too many "brand new starts" in kaneki's life of recent. ]

And no one has any answers.
So we just have to go along with it.
