I need immediate assistance. Sunset Falls, 21 Will-o'-the-Wisp Walk.

I have at least eight people trapped in a parasitic spellscape. They need search and rescue. If you’re coming, bring a light source.

[ His video shuts off here, but he leaves the feed open as an audio on his end to listen in on conversation, ready to respond if needed.]

From what I can tell, it's taken the form of an unbound approximation of the house. And it looks like nobody hired an electrician for the spare dimension they conjured up.

[ You need light because it's dark, enough with the questions and get with the moving. ]

[ is he about to fly into a house infested with eldritch monsters? what's the sitch, man? ]

[ Iron Man inbound, good. ]

Hold on.

[ There's a moment of not quite quiet, the telltale hiss of magic bleeding through the feed as Stephen prepares a spell that will help keep a handle on this for as long as it takes to properly contain it. ]

The spell conjured an enclosed dimension. It's echoing the house it was cast in but it's not a real building and it's not going to play by the same rules. The kids who cast it are trapped inside, and if we can't shut it down I don't guarantee they'll be the last.

[Oh, it's the wizard again. Having apparently caused some other magical mishap. That sounds like a problem for all the magical people to solve!

Otto then processes this for a couple more seconds, curses under his breath, and responds after all:]

Is Spider-Man in there?

Is there a way to gain entry from the outside right now?

[ curses and spells aren't exactly his expertise, so he is going to have to leave the magic part of it to stephen. ]

Do we have IDs on the kids trapped within and are we able to communicate with them?

There's an entrance in the basement. I've been inside long enough to mark it for anyone coming back through.

My universe's Peter Parker almost definitely, I didn't have time to find out the others. I can't get through to Parker and haven't had any response to this message from anyone claiming to be caught inside. Communication isn't looking good.

[ There's no point sugar-coating it. ]

Okay. [Guess he's getting involved!] You need anything besides light sources?

Are you at the Diadem? First aid kits, snacks, water.

[ There's no telling how long this will take, or what state people will be in by the time they make it out. Not a bad idea to start a stockpile. ]

[Five is in no particular rush at the moment, these aren't his people, this isn't really his problem, but–– ]

I don't know much about magic– [If anything, his tone on that word sounds like that of a heavy disbeliever.] so, let me ask you this: If we go charging in there, what's stopping us from being trapped like the others?

[He's not in the Diadem, but he'll manage! The benefits of getting in good with the recovery crews around Excelsior - he knows where to source all of those things very easily where he is. He can carry a lot, too, hope you're ready for all the supplies you'll ever need.]

[ He could explain the current working theory, but he knows a critic when he hears one, and he has neither the time or the patience. ]

I know a lot about magic. You can take my word for it.

Mmm... no. I work in facts, 'I swear I know what I'm talking about' isn't going to cut it.

Then we'll just have to find a way to make do without you.

[He'll leave it at that. If the guy isn't going to give more concrete details, Five will simply decide this isn't worth his time.]

[ About half an hour later, when he's finished casting a spell to contain the worst of the magic that's creeping outwards across Sunset Falls and the immediacy of his frustration has passed, a voice message: ]

I can't give you facts. The sample size is too small and magic doesn't work in absolutes. But for the time I was inside the spell, the impetus of the space was to get me back out again. My working theory is it can't take what knowingly enters, because in entering intentionally we establish a connection between outside and in that's enough of a channel to get people out.

[Honestly? Color him shocked he came back to it at all. He didn't expect it at all after a solid ten minutes of nothing, and here we are a whole half-hour later. Interesting.]

Jesus. I hate that that makes sense.

[Because he hates the idea of magic, in general, and there's something so logical about the theory he just explained and, fuck, he hates it here.]
